CHILLOUT TO SOME ACOUSTIC TUNES AT KIGHTS PARK Knights Park Bar, Kingston University, Kingston Upon Thames, KT1 2QJ. map, directions |
FEATURED ARTISTS: |
Sunday, October 22 (7-11.30pm; £4; £3 with flyer) will see an acoustic showcase at Kingston University's Knights Park bar, headlined by TrickSwitch, a loud and lively indie/grunge band. Daniel Rachel will be performing alongside the captivating singer-songwriters, Andreja Volenec, Ste (AMS) and Bethany Weimers. Rachel has just finished recording his debut with Ocean Colour Scene frontman, Simon Fowler, among other music luminaries. Andreja, a dual Croatian and American citizen, has been impressing London audiences with her subtle, intelligent and moving songs since she arrived in the capital last year. Ste stole the show at the Ram Jam Club last month with an uncompromising performance of controlled intensity. Weimers is kicking off her UK tour at Knight's Park. Kingston film student, Simon Donnelly a.k.a. Speeding in Nebraska, completes the line-up! Because Kingston is again providing the venue for free, 100% of the entrance fee will go directly to Oxfam. If you want to donate to charity, this is effectively a free gig! |

What do you get if you cross a Worthing sandwich fan, a Reading rebel, a Northern Monkey and Walking Thesaurus? Not sure..... However, in 2005 something along these lines did indeed happen, and out of the depths of South London, there arose a band forged in the shape of it's four musically accomplished members' searing minds. |

Daniel Rachel |
Daniel Rachel’s music has a glorious upbeat feel, with captivating, luscious string arrangements, fantastically catchy pop chorus’ and beautiful, bitter-sweet ballads. Praised by Q and MOJO as 'a poetic writing talent with articulate and elegant songs' and 'a real depth of emotion' his music simply must be heard. |

Ste (AMS) |
Ste is an all in one music production facility, if you climb into his belly button you'll turn into a drum kit, each arm has the power of five guitars which he layers using his overclocked computer brain to create a sound he calls diverse grunge rock. When live he waters down his quad channel power amps and straps on an acoustic to create a huge sound with minimal memory overflow; DIVERSE ACOUSTIC GRUNGE ANYONE? |
|
A highly original singer-songwriter, Andreja draws on a wide range of
influences to produce memorable melodies and harmonies. Her lyrics are
clear and accessible but are woven with ambiguities, subtlety and insight.
She aims to deeply move both emotions and minds. She is a versatile singer
with a clear, natural and beautiful voice. |

Bethany Weimers |
Bethany Weimers is a talented singer, songwriter and composer who combines a unique gift for creating haunting and hooky melodies with poignant lyrics. Her acoustic set mixes her own original material with the occasional new take on more familiar tracks. She cites her influences as ranging from eastern European gypsy music through Kate Bush and Nina Simone to The Doors, but the result is always distinctly her own. |

In the bright lights of London lives a small town country boy singing tales of his romances. Throughout his songs the mood switches between affection and something a slight darker. With a delicate strum of a guitar, a sense of punk honesty and a lyrical style which mixes that of Matt Skiba and Jesse Lacey; S.i.N. has his sights set on your daughter. As an early listener once said of defining song 'Amber', "That sounds a bit like Placebo" "No, That's not the f*cking point at all." |
